Tiling by obj ID's

I've been mostly doing tiling by assigning the texture to each quad with id's and i can change those id's for different textures a lot easier than to just have the whole thing unwrapped and having to update the whole texture. The huge set back here is that its slow for modeling. cant extrude or make new polys since those will need to be unwrapped. I can unwrapped the whole thing and just explode the uv shell and then make each quad take up the space, it can be slow to do it for each one and …
